Scoring model

Stat GM Simulation Scoring Explained

Stat GM does not replay 162 games or simulate individual plate appearances. It evaluates the season statistics on your completed roster, scores the hitters as one lineup and the pitchers by role, then converts those two sides into a projected record.

The model is deterministic: the same completed roster under the same settings always receives the same result. Positions control who can fill each slot; they do not add simulated defense or a positional bonus to the final projection.

Two scores feed one record

Classic uses eight hitters, one starter, and one reliever. DH adds a ninth hitter; Extra SP adds a second starter; using both creates a 12-pick roster. Every required slot must be filled before a roster can be submitted or simulated.

Raw lineup and pitcher contributions become separate projection ratings, then feed a 162-game record centered on 81 wins.

The lineup is scored as a lineup

All hitter statistics are totaled first, then compared with an approximate eight-hitter benchmark of .255 AVG, 520 R, 145 HR, 500 RBI, 80 SB, and 3,900 AB.

  • Raw hitting combines team contact, runs, power, RBI, speed, and volume.
  • The interactive chart offers two proportional views. Typical lineup compares the average absolute contribution of AVG, runs, HR, RBI, AB, and SB across 84,856 completed Challenge lineups through July 22, 2026. Per 1 event compares one additional HR, run, RBI, or stolen base at or above the lineup benchmark. Considered independently, one HR carries roughly the same raw hitting value as 2.4 runs, 3.9 RBI, or 4.4 stolen bases; runs and RBI receive slightly more value while correcting a deficit.
  • A runs or RBI deficit costs slightly more than an equal surplus earns, so one strength cannot completely hide a broken lineup.
  • DH games scale the benchmark to nine hitters, then normalize the result back to the same hitting scale.

Credit for ERA and WHIP increases with innings

Starter and reliever value combines ERA, WHIP, strikeouts, workload, W-L, and reliever save leverage against separate role baselines.

  • The starter benchmark is approximately 4.25 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 180 IP, and 160 K.
  • The reliever benchmark is approximately 3.95 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 60 IP, 60 K, and 18 saves.
  • Better-than-baseline ERA and WHIP earn increasing positive credit as innings accumulate, reaching full credit near 180 IP for SP and 50 IP for RP. Worse-than-baseline ERA and WHIP are penalized without a small-sample discount.
  • Extra SP averages the two starter contributions 50/50 before adding the reliever normally.

Projected record

Hitting and pitching receive equal weight around an 81-win center. Before other adjustments, two rating points added to either side are worth about one projected win. Elite expansion, low-end drag, and a hitting/pitching imbalance penalty then distinguish exceptional, weak, or one-sided teams.

The visible hitting and pitching ratings are rounded and capped at 100, but the internal projection is not capped, so elite value above the display ceiling still changes wins.

Why position deltas do not total to hitting

In the July 22 AldousDixon–Dukie98 Challenge, Dukie98 led the three different position scores by 3.8, but AldousDixon led final hitting 75.9 to 75.6. The position deltas compare individual player scores; hitting recomputes the full lineup.

Across the full lineup, AldousDixon gained 4.7 raw contact points, lost 0.5 runs and 8.4 power, tied RBI, and gained 2.8 speed plus 2.1 volume. That net 0.7 raw edge became the 0.3 displayed hitting edge. Both teams projected to 119 wins, so cumulative rating decided the result.

Draft the whole stat line

Strong hitters pair production with season-long volume. Strong pitchers pair better-than-baseline ERA and WHIP with enough innings to receive full positive credit. One loud category or a tiny dominant sample can still leave a weak overall contribution.

Build a roster, not a highlight reel

Category coverage, scarce positions, multi-position flexibility, remaining spins, and the players already rostered all change what the best next pick looks like.
